Colombian-born cellist Ariel David Londoño is a compelling and expressive performer whose playing has been praised for its depth, warmth, and lyrical intensity. He will appear as soloist in this program performing Max Bruch’s Kol Nidrei and the Prelude from Gaspar Cassadó’s Suite for Solo Cello.
Ariel holds a bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the National Conservatory of the National University of Colombia, as well as a master’s degree in chamber music from Kent State University, where he studied with the acclaimed Miami String Quartet. He also earned a master’s degree in cello performance, along with a conducting certificate, from Ohio University under the guidance of Gabriel Prynn of the internationally recognized Trio Fibonacci.
He has appeared as both a soloist and chamber musician throughout Colombia and the United States, performing in numerous recitals and concert series. His chamber work includes performances with the Garúa Quintet, an ensemble devoted to the music of Piazzolla, and he placed in chamber music competitions in Colombia. Ariel’s orchestral experience began with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá and has included appearances with the Colombian Symphony and membership in the Ohio Valley Symphony.
Equally at home on the solo stage, Ariel brings a distinctive voice to the cello repertoire, combining technical command with a deeply communicative musicality. As one listener remarked, “His playing feels almost magical—there’s a natural expressiveness that draws you in and makes every phrase feel alive.”
